Employer Support

Since 2007 when Step Up received its first grant from the Ford Foundation, it has been working with local employers to increase the number of low-wage employees who enroll in publicly funded work supports, engage in local training programs and connect with other resources that build skills and boost spending power.  The original grant, awarded by Families and Work Institute, was part of a national Supporting Work Project awarded to 10 cities nationally, administered by The Families and Work Institute.

Step Up continues to leverage business relationships in healthcare, hospitality, warehousing, and city and county governments for the benefit of those employers and their lower wage workers.

At no cost to the employer, Step Up is able to:

- Provide on-site screening and enrollment assistance for over a dozen state and federal benefits programs
- Provide technical assistance setting up sustainable benefits screening processes for new hires.
- Provide technical assistance, referrals and service delivery for employee financial services like: free tax preparation, financial education, low & no cost financial products.
- Provide technical assistance & referrals with workforce development services like: career pathway training programs, entry level   feeder training programs, GED support for employees
- Assist with connection to other work supports like Transportation and Dependent Care assistance.
