Michelle Mapp, assistant director of the Lowcountry Housing Trust, presented Oct. 14 at Step Up's annual meeting on the economic and community impacts of an affordable housing trust fund. This Charleston-based non-profit has successfully raised, leveraged and loaned millions of dollars since its inception in 2004, out of a mayor's task force on affordable housing.
The winner of the 2010 Workplace Innovator Award was also announced at the packed breakfast meeting at Savannah Technical College, which was covered by WTOC, the City of Savannah's Public Information crew, Savannah Government Channel, the Morning News and the Business Journal, among others. Check out David Humphries' photos in the "Spotted" gallery of photos as well--see if you were spotted at the breakfast meeting Thursday.
In related news, Savannah's Mayor applauded the dip in the City's overall poverty rate at the annual meeting. "The poverty rate in Savannah and Chatham County fell in 2009 for the first time in three decades, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey."
