Of single-parent families in poverty less than 30% are headed by an unmarried woman

"A recent editorial ("Poverty's pipeline," Sept. 19) detailed the devastating ripple effect unwanted pregnancies have on our community.


"The number of children who come into this world because of irresponsibility and/or ignorance is staggering. And while the editorial's focus was mostly on unwed mothers, I submit that whether a woman is married or not has less to do with the predicament our society finds itself in than poor decision-making, lack of family planning resources or lack of education regarding reproductive health."
