National poverty facts released

A revised report released by the Census Bureau had new findings on U.S. poverty in 2009, according to YoU.S. Desk
Key findings of the report are:

"Overall poverty in 2009 stood at 15.7 percent, or 47.8 million people. (MSNBC)

 

Transportation, commuting and child care costs weigh on working-age Americans. (MSNBC)

"The official poverty rate for those ages 18 to 64 is currently 12.9 percent, the highest since 1960s levels that launched the war on poverty. Working-age poverty has increased to 14.8 percent".
