Georgia ranks #12 among states in poverty in the nation

This is not a scale we want to rank high in; 16.5% of state residents are now living below the federal poverty threshold.

The Georgia Budget and Policy Institute suggests the state of Georgia consider creating a task force to reduce poverty, citing the effects of the “Great Recession.” These effects include increasing numbers of middle class families falling into poverty, while the working poor no longer have a path to the middle class.  Follow this link to the brief, “Establishing an Economic Security Task Force in Georgia.”
