Testing fees for the general educational development (GED) diploma will increase substantially this summer
and the GED Testing Service will move to a new computer-based testing system.
The changes will have significant impacts on many adults who are served through
our community-based service providers. It’s quite likely the changes will
initially deter many low-income adult learners from successfully obtaining this
critical credential.
Starting in July it will cost $50 for each of the five test sections, and if the adult learners do not complete the tests in one sitting, they’ll be
charged up to $250. Now, adults pay a flat $95 fee to take the five-part test
and the majority require at least two days to take it.

how these changes will affect those who need the GED most.
